The Distinct Network Monitor is a protocol analyzer (also known as packet analyzer) that includes both packet sniffing and network traffic statistical analysis tools. Network Segment Statistics
Distinct Network Monitor collects the statistics that relate to all network traffic
on the given network segment being monitored. While providing easy-to-read graphic
representations of the top ten items in all statistics categories, it also provides
very detailed information about the general activity on the network segment.
Statistics can potentially span most of the network if a Distinct Network
Monitor agent (DNM agent), sometime referred to as a network probe is
installed on each segment or attached to a switch port. Network statistics include traffic generated to and from all the IP addresses that are active on the network segment as well as broadcast and multicast packets. Details are given up to the application level. For each IP address, you can check packet distribution per protocol and get all the talking pairs for each protocol.
